Thank you for visiting ‘Dotty about Phoebe.’ My name is Gemma and I am the founder of Dotty about Phoebe. I am Mummy to two beautiful daughters Alana Dotty and Betsy Phoebe.
Alana and Betsy are my inspiration to start my own business based around (but not soley) baby keepsakes.
Everyone says that when you become a parent your life changes forever in a way you could never dream of, this couldn’t be more true for myself and my husband Andy. Our eldest daughter was born extremely prematurely at 23 weeks and 2 days gestation in July 2013 weighing just 1lb 3oz, although the odds and statistics were not on our side, she pulled through (with one hell of a bumpy journey and almost 6 months in hospital). Behind the closed doors of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit it is a very different world, you could never imagine the smell, the noises and the terror you experience in there unless you have set foot inside. When you come so close to not having your child anymore life becomes more about living for the moment, creating memories and enjoying every second. Things that used to matter all of a sudden are not so important. Once my maternity leave finished after Alana was born I felt I needed to do something different with my career, I wasn’t the same person who left work for the summer holidays thinking I would return again in September still pregnant. I never found that ‘something different’ until after Betsy was born in December 2015.
Babies are only babies for such a small space of time, so I think its so special to be able to capture those moments in precious keepsakes. As I say Alana and Betsy are my inspiration with the hope of this being my full time job once fully established (so I hope to rewrite this page in the near future!) as it will give me the flexibility to be there for every precious milestone they reach, every tantrum (well….), the first day at nursery, as well as all the extra things we have for Alana like physio.
My husband has always cursed me for keeping sentimental items that are stored in our loft, but being sentimental has led me to ‘Dotty about Phoebe’ and creating precious keepsakes for many more people to treasure.
